The Team at Marsh Creek Studios

Terri Unger and Alex Knudsen are the artistic visionaries that make up the team at Marsh Creek Studios.

As the story goes... Alex was working as a barista at Zumi's coffee shop in Ipswich, Massachusetts, serving up delicious fair trade coffee drinks to all the good people of this small seaside community.  Terri, a regular, had observed this particularly tall barista's excellence at his job for over a year before she one day also observed the tattooed negative strip on his arm, just visible under his rolled up sleeve as he slid her coffee across the counter. They struck up a conversation about their mutual passion for fine art photography including their admiration for Emmet GowinSally Mann and masters such as Alfred Stieglitz. Alex, then a Mass College of Art photography student, and Terri a photojournalist and portrait artist, began collaborating on

multiple projects including Terri's book,

People and Place: Oral Histories and Portraits of Ipswich Seniors, which was published in 2011.

They now have 7 years of work experience together ranging from fine art darkroom work to on-location corporate shoots. In recent years, their wedding photography requests have increased, prompting the creation of Marsh Creek Studios in the spring of 2016. Their complimentary vision and skills are the perfect blend for contemporary wedding photography!

Terri and Alex specialize in natural light and prefer working in outdoor/rustic settings such as farms, beaches and backyards. They do however, enjoy formal indoor settings as well. From casual to formal, your final images will reflect the look and feel that is unique to you. Marsh Creek Studios offers both traditional film photography as well as digital. The goal is to tell your wedding story with beautiful photographs, from the smallest of details to the most candid, intimate moments of you, your family and guests. Terri and Alex combine fine art sensibilities with a documentary/journalistic style using traditional and modern photographic processes to create a lasting memory of your wedding day.

Terri Unger

Terri has worked for the past 25 years as a portrait artist and photojournalist in the Boston area. Her photographs and articles have appeared in numerous publications including Boston Magazine, The Boston Globe and various north shore newspapers, North Shore Magazine, Wellspring and Ipswich Neighbors Magazine. In 2010 she received a grant from Mass Humanities and Massachusetts Cultural Council for a community project in Ipswich, resulting in the publication of a book in 2011, which includes portraits and oral histories of senior residents of the town. The work is in the permanent collection at the Ipswich Museum. Terri's photographs have been exhibited throughout the greater Boston area, winning multiple awards of excellence. She received a Boston Magazine's, Best of Boston award in 1998 for her intimate, fine art photographs of families.

Terri's love of photography was born from the magical Kodachrome slide shows she experienced as a child with her family in their living room. She loved the smell of the pop up screen and the dust particles dancing in and out of the light beam, which projected images of intimacy and human connection. These moments impacted her deeply and inspired her work as an artist. Relationships remain a primary focus of her work. When Terri's not shooting, she's hiking wooded new england trails, biking on the picturesque back roads of the north shore, picking vegetables at the farm, hanging with friends, and trying to be the best mother possible to her two sons.
